The picturesque vicinity encourages to excursions outside the
town. In the neighbourhood of Bolesławiec, there are man-made water
reservoirs – a real paradise for anglers, several-hundred-jear oaks and
monumental erratic blocks, and above all – the Lower Silesian Woods, the
biggest forest complex in this part of Poland.
The Piast castles Trail runs throught the town. The nearest Piast
residence – 15th-c. castle in Grodziec – is only 20 km away
from the town.
A late-baroque palace in Kliczków on the Kwisa River, around which a park
strtches with one of few cemeteries for horses in Poland, is also worth
visiting. Ruins of baroque palaces have been preserved in the direct
neighbourhood of Bolesłąwiec, in Gościszów and Warta Bolesławiecka.
Bolesławiec
is a city with many historical sites, known for beautiful ceramics, for
years having an opinion of one of the most beautiful cites of Lower
Silesia. Monuments:
- The oldest part of the Town Hall, adorned with two late-Gothic portals from
the 15 th century on one of the side walls, extends around the
soaring tower, with annexes. The most beautiful section is the room with a
late-Gothic ceiling from 1530 and two late-Renaissance portals from 1572
and 1580.
- Surrounded by tenements in the late-Gothic, Renaissance and baroque styles, the Old
Town Square forms an impressive whole.
- The church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary and St Nicholas, whose
present late-Gothic form dates from 1492, the baroque church decorations
and the delightful font from 1727 and the baroque pulpit from 1766. Around
the church stand baroque sculptures by Jerzy Leonard Weber, while the
interior displays a graceful altarpiece from 1692 by the same artist.
- Layer of walls with numerous defensive towers appeared from the 14 th.
- Protestant church from 1752.
Ceramics Museum

Visitiors can admire the museum`s collections of Bolesławiec
stoneware and several dozen examples of historic stoneware from Germany,
Austria, the Czech Republic, Holland and England. Apart from permanent
exhibitions, the institution organises temporary expositions dedicated to
various subjects.
MAJOR ANNUAL CULTUR EVENTS:
Blues on the Bóbr River
– second decade of August.
Poland`s largest blues workshop along with concerts by
outsanding jazz and blues musicians. Bolesławiec has played host to,
among others, Piotr Baron, Zbigniew Lewandowski, Wojciech Karolak and Krzysztof Ścierański.
International Open-air Ceramics and sculpture activities
– beginning of each August.
The rich deposits of clay and ceramic minerals and the longstanding
tradition of stoneware making have always attracted numerous ceramic
artists to Bolesławiec and nearby towns and villages. The meetings of
sculptors and ceramic artists in Bolesławiec enjoy a 35-year-old history.
The Artists, who visit the town from all over the world, their ingenuity,
imagination and aesthetic experiments conjure up unique works which are
later admired at various postfestival exhibitions in Poland`s major cities.
Bolesławiec Celebration of Pottery
– penultimate weekend of every August.
Presentation and sale of ceramics and building materials in the Old Town
Square accompanied by various accompanying.
Bolesławiec Days – last decade of May.
The town`s festival with numerous concerts, performances, cabaret show,
sporting competitions and colourful fetes.
